Silane USi-417 – Methylvinyldichlorosilane
High-Reactivity Vinyl Chlorosilane for Advanced Silicone Synthesis
CAS No.: 124-70-9
EINECS No.: 204-710-3
Molecular Weight: 141.07 g/mol
Synonyms: Dichloromethylvinylsilane, VinylmethyldichlorosilaneSilane USi-417 is a key bifunctional monomer in organosilicon chemistry, featuring one reactive vinyl group and two hydrolyzable chlorine atoms. It serves as a critical building block for synthesizing methylvinyl silicone intermediates used in high-performance silicone rubber, heat-resistant resins, and functional fluids.
🧪 Product Description
Chemical Formula: C₃H₆Cl₂Si
Chemical Structure: CH₂=CH–Si(CH₃)Cl₂USi-417 combines vinyl functionality with high chlorosilane reactivity, enabling versatile chemical transformations essential for tailored silicone polymer design. Its rapid hydrolysis and compatibility with hydrosilylation make it indispensable in modern silicone manufacturing.
⚗️ Key Properties & Reactivity
-
Rapid Hydrolysis:
Reacts readily with moisture, releasing hydrogen chloride (HCl), to form methylvinylsilanediol, which condenses into methyl vinyl silicone glycol—a core intermediate for heat-stable silicone resins and elastomers. -
Alcoholysis Reaction:
With anhydrous ethanol, yields methylvinyl diethoxysilane while emitting HCl—useful for safer handling or controlled reactivity in formulations. -
Grignard Substitution:
The chlorine atoms on Si–Cl bonds can be replaced by organic groups via reaction with organomagnesium halides (RMgX), enabling custom silane synthesis. -
Hydrosilylation (Pt-Catalyzed):
The vinyl group (–CH=CH₂) undergoes addition with Si–H-containing compounds, forming stable ethylene bridges. This reaction is fundamental to addition-cure liquid silicone rubber (LSR) and crosslinked networks.

🏭 Applications
Silane USi-417 is widely used to synthesize:
- Methylvinyl silicone intermediates (e.g., DV cyclics, linear copolymers)
- Vinyl-functional silicone oils for reactive diluents, release coatings, and adhesives
- High-consistency rubber (HCR) and liquid silicone rubber (LSR) with enhanced thermal stability (up to 250°C)
- Heat-resistant silicone resins (MQ/MT types) for electrical insulation and aerospace applications
- Crosslinkable PDMS polymers requiring precise cure-site control
Its incorporation improves:
- Tensile and tear strength
- Compression set resistance
- Long-term durability under thermal stress
📦 Packaging
Available in industrial-grade, moisture-protected containers:
- 20 kg HDPE pail (PTFE-lined cap)
- 190 kg / 200 kg steel drum (nitrogen-purged)
- 950 kg IBC tote (with dip tube and vent filter)
All packaging is sealed under dry nitrogen to prevent hydrolysis and ensure product integrity.
⚠️ Safety & Storage Guidelines
- Moisture-sensitive: Reacts violently with water, releasing corrosive hydrogen chloride (HCl) gas.
- Flammable liquid: Keep away from heat, sparks, and open flame.
- Storage: Store at or below 25°C in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area.
- Shelf Life: 12 months from production date in original unopened containers.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Use chemical-resistant gloves (nitrile/neoprene), goggles, face shield, and handle in a fume hood.
- Safety Data Sheet (SDS): Available at www.usi-chemical.com or upon request.
