- The three acetoxy (–OCOCH₃) groups hydrolyze rapidly in the presence of atmospheric moisture, releasing acetic acid and forming Si–O–Si networks with base polymers (e.g., hydroxyl-terminated PDMS)
- The methyl group provides compatibility with standard silicone backbones while maintaining flexibility
- Acts as the primary or co-crosslinker to fine-tune:
- Cure rate (surface and through-cure)
- Adhesion to non-porous substrates (glass, metals, plastics)
