Engineered as a surface modifier, it delivers effective, long-lasting water repellency to porous inorganic substrates—including concrete, masonry, glass, mineral fillers, and inorganic pigments—while preserving the substrate’s original appearance, texture, and vapor permeability. ![Structure: C₆H₁₃–Si(OC₂H₅)₃]USi-6602 combines optimal chain length with ethoxy reactivity:
- The n-hexyl group (C6) provides stronger hydrophobicity than short-chain silanes (e.g., methyl, propyl), yet offers better penetration depth and formulation compatibility than very long chains (e.g., C8, C18)
- The triethoxysilane moiety hydrolyzes in the presence of ambient moisture to form reactive silanols, which covalently bond to hydroxylated surfaces (e.g., Si–OH on concrete or glass) via stable Si–O–Si linkages
- Creates a monomolecular hydrophobic layer that repels liquid water while allowing water vapor to escape—preventing trapped moisture, spalling, and efflorescence
- Treated surfaces remain visually unchanged: no gloss, darkening, film formation, or surface residue
