![Structure: iso-C₄H₉–Si(OC₂H₅)₃]USi-6402 works by chemically bonding to substrate surfaces:
- The triethoxysilane group hydrolyzes upon contact with ambient moisture to form reactive silanols (Si–OH)
- These silanols condense with hydroxyl groups on cementitious or mineral surfaces, forming stable Si–O–Si covalent bonds
- The iso-butyl chain then projects outward, creating a low-surface-energy monolayer that repels water while allowing vapor transmission (“breathable waterproofing”)
- Unlike film-formers (e.g., acrylics), it does not peel, yellow, or trap moisture—providing long-term protection from freeze-thaw damage, chloride ingress, and efflorescence
