![Structure: Si(OCH₂CH₂CH₃)₄]Unlike amino, epoxy, or mercapto silanes, USi-6043 contains no organofunctional group directly bonded to silicon. Instead, it serves as a pure inorganic silica precursor that hydrolyzes to form silanols, which then condense into a SiO₂ network.
The propoxy groups are larger and less polar than methoxy or ethoxy groups, resulting in:
- Slower hydrolysis rate → better process control and longer working time
- Lower volatility and reduced odor vs. TMOS/TEOS
- Improved solubility in less polar solvents and resin systems
This makes USi-6043 particularly valuable in formulations requiring delayed reactivity or enhanced formulation stability.
