![Structure: CH₃–Si(OCH₃)₃]Unlike amino or mercapto silanes, USi-6101 contains no organofunctional group that bonds to polymers—its methyl group is inert. However, its three methoxy groups readily hydrolyze to form silanols that:
- Condense into a hydrophobic silica-like network
- Bond covalently to inorganic surfaces (e.g., glass, silica, metals)
- Act as an efficient crosslinker in moisture-cure systems
The methyl group imparts hydrophobicity, flexibility, and reduced crosslink density, making it ideal for applications requiring water repellency without brittleness.
